Connaissance de Ceylan means
the Discovery of Ceylon now known as Sri Lanka. Better known for its
beaches, the unique attractions of the tropical Indian Ocean island of Sri
Lanka are found in the island interior in an area called the Cultural
Triangle. In its small area are no less than 7 UNESCO recognised world
heritage sites as well as many internationally well less known but equally
fascinating marvels which are also travelogued on this site. A visit to the
Cultural Triangle of Anuradhapura in the North, Sigiriya, Dambulla in the
middle Polonnaruwa in the East and Kandy to the south is a voyage of
discovery from the beaches
The Connaissance of Ceylan
travel group were one of the earlier hotel groups in Sri Lanka appealing
mainly to a French travel market; hence the name. They built the
Le Kandyan Hotel (now
Amaya Hills), Culture Club (now Amaya Hills)
with one of the first Eco Cultural resorts in Sri Lanka in the heart of the
Cultural Triangle in the interior.
In accordance with our "Visit,
stay at and inspect" before recommending policy of our UK Head Office,
directors of Special Offer Holidays have visited all Amaya resorts. The
first visit to Le Kandyan was in March 2003 whilst the last visit being to
Cultural Club in Dambulla on 3 March 2009 for our travelogue website
