The luxury
Lighthouse Hotel on the South Coast of Sri Lanka near the city of Galle
is a tranquil resort retreat with magnificent Indian Ocean views nestled
on a headland overlooking the Indian Ocean. This Sri Lanka hotel is
located on the outskirts of Galle. The fourth city of Sri Lanka is a
world heritage site housing Galle Fort, the finest preserved colonial
fort in Asia. Designed in the style of the old Dutch Galle Fort,
Lighthouse Hotel designed by world renowned architect, Geoffrey Bawa is
a masterpiece of space and light, blending into the rocks of the
headland it is sited on,
The hotel is a member of the small luxury hotels
of the world and has been inspected and visited by our directors on at
least 7 occasions, with overnight stay.
The last guests we booked at The
Lighthouse Hotel were a family group from England who stayed in 3 double
rooms between 29 December 2008 and 5 January 2009. They were pleased
with both the Lighthouse Hotel and Galle. Our Directors visited The
Lighthouse Hotel in Galle on 21 December prior to the arrival of our VIP
guests.
When you arrive at the Lighthouse Hotel near Galle in Sri Lanka, the
Guest Relations Office takes you up a large spiral staircase with a
metal sculpted balustrade depicting a battle scene. Immediately you
ascend to the first floor terrace overlooking the waves breaking on the
rocks below – hence the name The Lighthouse Hotel.
Superb dining is just
some of the experiences to indulge in. Dinner on the terrace watching
the waves crashing on the rocks below is an experience as is seafood
barbeque among the rocks. Alternatively dine a la carte on the upper
floor astride a large semi covered pond where candle lights float on the
water and a terrace offers a great view of Galle. The furnishings
throughout the hotel are minimalist, giving a feel of spaciousness, but
dotted throughout with antique reproductions of the Dutch Galle Fort
era.
Accommodation
The first impression
of the rooms is of luxury and spaciousness. All the exquisite rooms and
suites open into spacious balconies that offer superb sea views of the
Indian Ocean. They are tastefully decorated. Deluxe Room Accommodation
is in The massive king sized bed gives the room a feeling of restrained
luxury as do the teak floors. Old World charm with Colonial fort style
marine blue wood panels on the windows. Teak writing desk, comfortable
sofa, TV, mini bar, safety locker, Complimentary coffee/tea making
facility, private balcony or terrace. Unusual is the large en-suite
wood/granite bathroom with dressing area, separated from the rest of the
massive room by a teak sliding door. The bath area offers separate
shower room, tub and built-in closets. Hairdryer, air-conditioning,
ceiling fan, IDD phone.
The Dutch Room Theme
Suite is filled with antique reproductions including four poster king
size bed. Magnificent Ocean view. Four-poster king sized bed. Teak
floors. Individually decorated. Separate sitting room with teak writing
desk and comfortable sofa bed. Pantry, TV, mini bar, safety locker,
coffee/ tea making facility, private balcony, large en-suite
wood/granite bathroom with dressing area, separate shower room, Jacuzzi
Bath tub, built-in closets, hairdryer, guest toilet, butler service,
air-conditioning, ceiling fan, IDD phone.
LOCATION:
Your air conditioned
chauffeur driven car or minivan will follow the Galle road out of
Colombo City. Galle Road is the longest road in Sri Lanka stretching all
the way down from Colombo to Galle. Proceed south on Galle Road through
Colpetty, Bambalapitiya, Wellawatte, Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Ratmalana,
Panadura, Wadduwa, Kalutara, Beruwala, Bentota, Ambalangoda, Hikkaduwa
and finally to Galle. The hotel situated at the 114 km post, just before
entering downtown Galle. The world heritage site of Galle Fort is only 4
kms from the Lighthouse Hotel
