Le Kandyan Hotel, now
rebranded Amaya Hills is sited on the scenic forested foot hills about 6
kms from Kandy, the last kingdom of ancient Ceylon. Kandy has
inspred the heritage them resort. In accordance with our “Visit
and Inspect before recommending policy” it was last visited by the UK
directors of our UK HQ in March 2003. They stayed in one of the suites.

Amaya Hills (formerly
known as Le Kandyan Hotel) lies on a rocky outcrop, 15 minutes drive
above the hill-country capital of Kandy. From this elevated site in its
natural settings, Le Kandyan hotel offers panoramic views over tranquil,
wooded surroundings as well as the city of Kandy and its surrounding
hills. Every attempt has been made to blend the hotel into the rocky
bedrock with rock outcrops interspersed in the corridors.
At
the meeting point of the resort’s three wings, and a short walk down
from the reception floor at the highest level of the hotel is the
swimming pool area with a panoramic view across the surrounding hills.
Guests after their invigorating swim can lounge in the open air and
enjoy a stunning outlook on the valley and distant hills.
Le
Kandy is decorated throughout, including the doors of the rooms,
in the traditional Kandyan colours of red, yellow and black. every corner holds
a piece of work from the rich historical past of the town, beautifully
incorporated into the layout of the hotel The massive carved columns
that once held up a castle roof now decorate the front lobby, and
locally significant murals, flags and carvings now decorate the
passageways and rooms Waiters in Kandyan garb serve traditional Sri
Lankan food at the "Rasa Wasala" restaurant which is also
furnished with all the cultural trappings like a bullock cart minus the
bullock.There is also a tea room
that serves over forty varieties of tea and two bars for a variety of
alcoholic fare. The main restaurant at Amaya Hills is
pleasantly furnished with all the cultural trappings like bullock cart.
It serves Sri Lankan and international cuisine. The tea lounge with a
huge selection of specialist Sri Lankan teas in a cave setting is worthy
of mention
Accommodation in Amaya
Hills Kandy consists of 100 air conditionedrooms with balcony or
terrace, The wings of the hotel blend into the rocky outcrops and you
see rocks in the corridors and between the rooms. The suites offer
luxury in an interesting split level design. The suites also offer
panoramic views from the balconies.
