The
Blue Water was visited and inspected by the Directors of our UK
office on Saturday 31 January 2009.
Our Director stayed in Room 206 and as a result of their most
recent inspection and viewing of the new luxury deluxe rooms, we
have upgraded the category from 4 star to 4 star plus – the new
super deluxe rooms offer stunningly designed 5 star accommodation.
Although this is a 100 room hotel, both the building area and the
tropical gardens are so spacious and the beach frontage so wide that
there is no sense of crowding at all. There are many “secluded
alcoves” not least amongst the corridors which are wide enough at
places to be mini lounges in their own right. The huge pool, amongst
the largest anywhere, further stands out because of its enchanting
narrow canals and quaint bridges which link its two sections.
The
100 standard rooms with their reddish terracotta tile floors are
spacious and luxuriously appointed with timber furnishing. The rooms
are all ensuite and have individual air conditioning controls. All
have either terraces, on the ground floor, or large secluded
balconies, which we found particularly appealing, as they offer
lovely views, including sunsets over the Indian Ocean.
The
new super deluxe rooms are amongst the most luxurious anywhere in
Asia. The marble floors are lit by low level lights. A magnificent
bathroom with Jacuzzi bathtub and rain showers looks into this scene
of luxury. The large balconies are ideal for enjoying the sunsets.
Sunsets, indeed are a treat at the Blue Water. The skies glows red
when cloudy or the enlarged red disk of the sun descends into the
Indian Ocean. The furniture in the aptly named Sunset Lounge also
glows red in the rays of the setting sun.
As
evening falls, the lights of the Blue Water are reflected in the
waters of the pools. In the evenings, the large tropical gardens
fronting the wide stretch of the beach become the location of
barbeques under the stars. The main dining area offers seating in
either air conditioned comfort with the luxury of teak floors or
just outside on the semi covered verandas fronting the ponds. For
dinner the tables are candle lit and the lights reflect on the
polished teak floors or the water. There is also a 24 hour café
called the Seven Seas.
The
hotel is even more beautiful in the evening. A live band plays, a
little noisily, on weekend evenings. The wide spacious corridors on
the second and third floors have lots of coves where you can relax
for a read in the evening.
We
have no hesitation in continuing to recommend the Blue Water Hotel,
which is now managed by the hotel owners themselves. Indeed, after
our visit and viewing of the super deluxe luxurious rooms, we are
upgrading this hotel to the five star category.
As The
Blue Water is located in Wadduwa; the southern beach resort closest
to the international airport and only 30 kms from the commercial
capital of Colombo, much closer than the resorts further South of
Kalutara, Beruwela and Bentota, this luxury hotel is popular and
often booked to capacity. If you are planning a holiday or wedding
here, please book early.
