We found the Elephant
Reach a good economic 2 star plus - 3 star alternative for those not
wanting a luxury hotel. Elephant Reach, built on an expansive
four-acre site, is made up of comfortable chalets built under the
shade of interesting tropical trees laden with ripe mangoes and
cashew nuts. The property imparts a relaxing natural feel and the
friendly, courteous staff are friendly and courteous.
The 21 air conditioned
chalets, most of which are interconnecting, blend with nature.
Although not very large in size, the chalets are well equipped with
a fully-stocked mini bar, TV with satellite channels, DVD player,
hair dryer, tea and coffee-making facilities and attached bathrooms
with hot and cold water.
Other facilities include
a restaurant, the Mahout's Bar (very enjoyable), pleasantly
landscaped gardens and swimming pool. Safari jeeps with guides for
tours inside the Yala wildlife parks are nearby.
The food
served is average
but without being gourmet. You will leave with
fonder memories of the setting than of the cuisine.
Excursions:
The hotel is located
close to Yala National Park, Bundala Bird Sanctuary, and historic
towns of Kataragama, Kirinda and Sithulpahuwa.
