Earth brown
is the blend with nature theme of the Hotel Sigiriya which offers
accommodation in 80 air conditioned, quite tastefully furnished guest
rooms, which are Standard or Superior. The latter offer much appreciated
tea and coffee making facilities, flat screen TVs, where you can receive
BBC News 24 and safes. A hearty buffet breakfast is served early and the
best time to climb the rock is early in the morning, before the heat
sets in or late in the evening.
Barely 1 km
from Hotel Sigiriya you can partake in an elephant safari ride and the
odd bullock cart in front of the rock provides for a photogenic snap and
reminds you that you are in an ancient land, surrounded by history.
Sunsets on the Sigiriya Rock can be of stunning beauty.
Fascinating are the monkeys who are almost a part of the hotel. Their
antics on the roofs can keep you occupied for hours. Nature blends into
the Hotel Sigiriya which is also home to a wide variety of bird species.
This is a
three star tourist hotel whose main advantage is the site in front of
Sigiriya. Its location makes it an ideal base from which to explore the
wonders of Sigiriya. Tourists of all nationalities will be found here;
on the nights of our stay we had a large party of French tourists in
residence.
In front of
the hotel reception, in the car park you will see numerous UN and
International Committee of the Red Cross vehicles, testimony to the
selfless, dedicated humanitarian work being done by their personnel from
all countries, under difficult conditions in the north of Sri Lanka by
these international organizations.
Lakshitha is
the General Manager, who we have known for years or speak to Thanuja,
Front Office Manager. |
