Mahaweli Reach
Hotel is nestled snugly on the banks of the Mahaweli Reach River nearer
the city centre of the ancient Sri Lankan capital of Kandy surrounded by
mountains of the Kandyan highlands. Mahaweli Reach Hotel in Kandy is 3
hours drive from Colombo International Airport. In accordance with
our "Visit and stay at before recommending policy" Mahaweli Reach Hotel
was visited by us in March 2003. We were delighted by this owner managed
hotel reflecting all the traditions of Kandyan hospitality, Mr Panaboke,
the owner embodies. Mahaweli Reach Hotel in its accommodation, both
rooms and suites to us is the finest five star hotel in Kandy. The
settings of the rooms and suites is very English, understated grandeur.
The swimming pool at sunset reflects beauty. Only on the cuisine have we
been less than fully satisfied.
Enchantment begins as the visitor enters the Mahaweli Reach hotel and
experiences the scenic natural resort beauty of a five star hotel in
Kandy sited between a river, mountains and secluded tropical gardens.
Complementing the natural beauty of its resort setting, each of the
luxurious 115 rooms opens out into the Mahaweli River or the lush
tropical garden adorned by a free form swimming pool. Rooms on the upper
floors have balconies with stunning views. We were accommodated in a

The two magnificent
suites, the Presidential Suite and the Junior Suite and all rooms are
equipped with air conditioning, telephone with IDD facilities, satellite
TV to watch cricket, mini bar, room service and wall to wall carpeting
or natural wood flooring.
A favourite amongst
English cricket fans who can watch our home team either out perform
beyond expectation or as is somewhat more usual fall to the prowess of
Sri Lanka cricketers is the bar with its satellite TV screen.
Other facilities
include a bar lounge, ayurvedic treatment centre, tennis courts, an
elegant billiard room. Entertainment features traditional dance troupes,
live music, barbecues under the stars. Here you can enjoy romantic river
cruises, exciting boat picnics and fishing trips. Visit the nearby world
famous Kandy temple of the tooth relic and the less well known temples
of Kandy, the Kandy Highway museum. Mahaweli Reach Hotel offers
