Serendib Hotel was visited by our Director; Shailesh Adalja on
Saturday 17 January 2009. in accordance with our “Inspect and stay
at before recommending and featuring policy” The hotel has the “Bawa
touch” throughout starting with the garden pond in front of the
reception. Most of the images used on this page were taken by us
during the inspection visit.
The
beach location is the outstanding characteristic of Hotel Serendib.
From the superior rooms, the golden sands of Bentota Beach waters of
the Indian Ocean are but a 2 minute walk across the tropical
gardens. Relax on your sun lounger under palm trees and watch an
elephant stroll idly by.
Hotel
Serendib offers 72 Standard rooms with balcony or Terrace, Hot/Cold
Water, Piped Music & Telephone. The standard rooms on the upper
floors of the main building, although air conditioned, are basic.
The 14
superior rooms with A/C, Hot/Cold Water, Cable TV, Mini Bar, Hair
Dryer, Patio, Piped Music, Telephone with IDD & Tea/Coffee Making
Facilities are much better appointed with four poster bed and teak
floors as well as the delightful rain showers in the bathrooms. The
Dutch style wooden window shutters and cane work finish on the
cupboards add character to the rooms. These superior rooms are some
of the best 3 star plus rooms we have seen in Sri Lanka. The only
element lacking in the rooms are the mini safes found at some other
hotels but lockers are available at Reception.
The
restaurant is not air conditioned but deliberately left open to the
cooling breezes off the Indian Ocean. The cuisine is an absolute
delight. On the day of the visit we were spoilt with a a wide choice
of culinary delights including Crab sweetcorn soup and sweet and
sour fish. On the evening of our stay, dinner was served under the
tropical skies in the wide garden area fronting the beach
